Glasgow's Original Co-operative!
Castlemilk East Housing Co-operative was registered in 1984 and is in its 21st year. We are a not for profit making registered social landlord and are fully committed to providing low affordable rents. To date we own 442 properties.

On 30th March 2004 at it's SGM our members approved the motion to convert to Charitable Status, in order to acquire status they also had to approve the motion to change the name of the organisation to Cassiltoun Housing Association. A staggering 90% voted in favour of these two proposals.

Membership of the Association
Any tenant, joint tenant, dependent or resident (18 years of age or over) can become a member by purchasing a share of the organisation for a fee of £1. In turn the members elect a Management Committee at Annual General Meeting's to run the organisations affairs. They in turn employ professional staff to run the organisation on a day-to-day basis.

We are very keen to encourage membership of the organisation, and welcome new management committee members in order to allow our residents to have tenant empowerment, by giving them a say in how the organisation operates. Two to three nights per month is usually required of a management committee member. Interested then contact the office to find out more information.

Aims & Objectives

We aim to enhance the quality of life of our clients and to regenerate and sustain our community through housing-led and resident controlled initiatives.

We aim to do this through a small number of strategic objectives and these are as follows:-

  • In order to ensure that our rents remain affordable, acquire a stock base sufficient to achieve economies of scale and deliver effective services in a cost efficient way.
  • Maintain the high quality of our housing and service provision, ensuring the comfort of tenants and the protection of our investment, (over £25m to date).
  • Maximise opportunities for community involvement in the regeneration process, promoting social inclusion and 'wider action'.
  • To facilitate the second stage stock transfer process with Glasgow Housing Association.
  • Ensure that the work of the Association is supported by effective financial, administrative and personnel systems.
