Activities Since being established in November 1993, North View has secured more than £21million of funding and spent it on improving the Windlaw area for the benefit of the people who live here.
Back then North View covered only a small bit of Windlaw, but the last decade has seen the Association grow to become the majority landlord in the area and replace Scottish Homes as the feu superior of the estate. Much of the growth can be attributed to building new houses, but most of it is down to the continuing success of Tenants Choice.
Tenant's Choice North View received its first Tenants Choice application in September 1998. Since then more than 350 Scottish Homes Windlaw tenants have taken the opportunity to transfer. This, coupled with the Association’s development programme has resulted in its stock base increasing to just over 600 rented properties.
Adaptations North View has carried out more than £150,000 worth of alteration work to more than 200 properties so that residents affected by long-term injury, illness, or disability can use their home more easily. This really makes a difference to people’s lives! It is an area of work that we are becoming more and more involved in.
Welfare Rights North View tenants have access to a Welfare Rights Officer. This service has been available to our tenants for years. It is very popular and very successful. It has benefited many tenants.
Wider Role We have always done Wider Role work, it is just that we didn’t call it that! The last few years have seen us develop our Wider Role Strategy and become more effective in its delivery.
Over the years we've worked with other agencies to provide training and employment opportunities for dozens of Castlemilk residents, and through our ongoing development programme have created apprenticeships for three young people from Castlemilk - but it goes beyond training and employment. We are also focussed on community issues!
Last year, after consulting with our tenants, North View paid £20,000 towards installing the two CCTV cameras in Windlaw. In our current development in Stravanan Road, we're responding to the information technological revolution by providing free equipment and internet access for all thirty four tenants that will move into the houses.
Development Our eighth development project completed in May. This may be our final development and already the focus is swinging towards maintenance and Wider Role activities.
